PowerPoint Rules

Microsoft PowerPoint is still the #1 presentation tool in universities as well as in schools. In order to create a well structured and informative PowerPoint presentation, you have to get familiarized with Microsoft's PowerPoint software and its respective tools to achieve this goals. As a first step into further slide designing within PowerPoint our instructor provided us with ten rules about PowerPoint slide design. Even though you might think you are good with PowerPoint, there might be some obvious rookie mistakes you are about to do while creating your next. presentation. These rules were:

1. A clear structure is important for the processing and understanding of the information.
2. Empty space can be used to emphasize content.
3. The importance of an element can be emphasized by framing, color and size.
4. The layout of a page can usually be defined by a grid which functions as the basis for all the arrangements of elements on the page.
5. The legibility is dependent on the colors selected.
6. Color can convey cultural- and emotional information.
7. Typefaces can be used to influence the interpretation of a text.
8. Diagrams can be used to display complex information in an understandable way.
9. Multimedia elements can be used to visualize content that cannot be described by textual information
10. Animation can be used to direct attention

Our task was to visualize every single rule with a matching visualization on a respective PowerPoint slide.
